Caroline Skeel was born and educated in London. She was first appointed to Westfield College in 1895 as a Visiting Lecturer in Classics and History and remained on the staff until her resignation through ill-health in 1929. She was the founder of Westfield College's School of History and the first Westfield teacher to gain a Chair.
